On a dark country road on New Year’s Eve 2015 I was involved in a road traffic accident. A man lost his life. His name was Michael Rawson. I will never be able to describe fully the shock of that experience; I got through hours and then whole days. Years later I decided it was time to tell the stories, mine and his. It’s a narrative of trauma and survival. This is my quest to find out more about a man I never knew but who is in my thoughts every day.

From Our Own Correspondent
As a broadcast journalist at the BBC I wrote and recorded dispatches for the Radio 4 and World Service programme ‘From Our Own Correspondent’. Here is one about a trek through the West African country of Mali, including a visit to the rarely visited city of Timbuktu. The other is an account of a road trip I made across the USA, driving alone from New York to San Francisco. A big trip to celebrate a big birthday.
